Give A Tree Australia has been inspired by my Great Great Grand Aunt who lived to 105, once she reached her 65th Birthday she requested we buy her trees in Israel that were planted on her behalf as gifts. She must have had forests planted in her name!
Since spending many years in the corporate world and education area I have grown a passion for nature. Give A Tree Australia provides a platform for you to purchase a gift that will help regenerate our bush and heal the earth.
The proceeds from sales will not only provide support restoring the environment to provide healthy habitats for Australian animals, but will also go toward an education program in Australian Primary Schools called KANGA (Kids And Nature Growing Australia).
KANGA has the objective to enthuse and inspire children to learn more about their patch in the world, care for it and become the scientists we need to help the world recover. Recovery will ensure the balance of nature that enables humans a great place to live.
KANGA is an educational incursion program focusing on sustainability that is a project of Cardinia Catchment Landcare Inc. (CCLG) based in Victoria. The team consists of a number of highly qualified people including a Zoologist, Teacher, Australian Plant Landscaper and several other qualified environmental professionals.
The package Give a Tree Australia is providing is an inclusive package that will provide:
Soon we hope to let you have a selection of projects you support
There is a very important difference between native and indigenous plant species. Well native means that the plant is native to anywhere in Australia. But indigenous means that it comes from a certain area, like the Grampians or even more specific such as one valley.
Why is this important? Just planting native species in an area, without checking if that plant is indigenous, is bad for the surrounding ecosystem. Native species can become weeds in areas where they aren’t originally from, and can take over habitats. This can alter the whole ecosystem by not being the plant that species like birds or small mammals feed off, they can change ground water levels by taking up too much water, and they can cross pollinate with the indigenous species, creating hybrids.
Not really if you are serious about true ecosystem conservation and habitation restoration, and the healing of the earth. Therefore, we are leaving this to the experts to choose the best indigenous native plants for the location.
Yes, the number of plants and the number of packages. Each package represents a plot of land, and the number of plants in each package is the number of plants that can be planted in that plot of land.
So you can to buy all the plants needed for each plot or only some.
As the business progresses Give A Tree Australia wants to be able to give you a choice of project. Not that you must choose, but you can if you want.
Currently we are assessing several projects and will put them up on line once confirmed.
One current project that we will be working with is the Healesville to Phillip Island Nature Link. I am waiting for agreement with them about this amazing project before we put up the details on the site. This project is covering a large area of the Western Port Bay Catchment Area which holds an environmental rating close to that of the Barrier Reef in Queensland. At this stage I will share the link to their Facebook page which is still in early development stage.
This project is covering an area that is in the middle of massive urban expansion so acting now so both human habitats and nature’s habitats can cooperatively develop is vital.
FYI: Australia’s southern waters are unique. Ninety per cent of our marine plants and animals are found nowhere else on earth. The system of Marine National Parks and Sanctuaries has been established to represent the diversity of Victoria’s marine environment, its habitats and associated flora and fauna.
